Our proposals

enfinium is proposing to install carbon capture and storage (CCS) technology at our Ferrybridge 1 and 2 energy from waste facilities in Knottingley, West Yorkshire.

This £800 million investment would avoid the emissions of around 1.3 million tonnes of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere each year by the time both facilities are operational.

Currently, roughly 50% of the carbon in non-recyclable waste in the UK is derived from organic materials which have naturally absorbed CO2 from the atmosphere. The carbon that is released when this type of waste is burned is known as biogenic carbon and is part of the natural carbon cycle.

By capturing this carbon at our energy from waste plants instead of allowing it back into the atmosphere, the energy produced at our Ferrybridge site would be carbon negative.
